Man’s Role In Marriage and The Truth About Divorce

Number 44

Every company, state, nation, etc. has a leader.

Moses was the leader of the Israelites.

Exodus 3:10, “Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.”

Study Numbers 12 and 16.

The Lord made Adam and Eve. He told them to multiply.

A man, his wife, and his children are a family. The Lord made the man the head of the household.

The woman was to be a help meet for the man. The woman was created for man.

Genesis 2:18, “And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.”

Genesis 2:23-24

23 “And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.”

24 “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”

I Corinthians 11:7-9

7 “For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.”

8 “For the man is not of the woman: but the woman of the man.”

9 “Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.”

A good wife comes from the Father.

Proverbs 19:14, “ House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the Lord.”

The man is to rule over the woman.

Genesis 3:16, ” Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.”

A man and his wife become one flesh.

Ephesians 5:31, “For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.”

The man is the head of the household.

Ephesians 5:22-24

22 “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.”

23 “For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.”

24 “Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.”

I Timothy 3:4-5

4 “One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;”

5 “(For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)”

I Timothy 3:12, “Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.”

The Lord made the family. The man is head of the household as Christ is head of the church.

I Corinthians 11:3, “But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.”

Study I Corinthians 11.

A man is to provide for his family.

I Timothy 5:8, “But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.”

Adam was not deceived but Eve was.

I Timothy 2:13-14

13 “For Adam was first formed, then Eve.”

14 “And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.”

The man and his wife are joined together in marriage with the man as head of the household.

Adam was married to Eve.

Genesis 2:24-25

24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

See Genesis 3:17,21.

In the beginning Adam did not fulfill his role as head of the household and Eve did not fulfill her role as his help meet.

The same thing is happening again.

The woman is becoming more dominant and the man less dominant in many marriages today.

This should not be.

The Truth About Divorce

Jesus clearly tells us that we are not to divorce and remarry again except for fortification.

Matthew 19:8-9

8 “He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.”

9 “And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.”

This means you are not to divorce.

If you are in the church and your spouse divorces you, you can remarry, but only within the church.

I Corinthians 7:15, “But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.”

I Corinthians 7:39, “The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord.”

If you separate from your spouse, you do not divorce your spouse. You live separately or be reconciled to your spouse.

I Corinthians 7:10-11

10 “And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband:”

11 “But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.”
